Summer Marie Saunders was born on August 21, 1993 in Seattle, WA. She is the firstborn of Jeremy and Mimi Saunders. Summer weighed in at 8 pounds 1 ounce, after the nurse assured me I was having a little six-pounder. After twenty hours or so of labor and another two hours of pushing (hard to push when you are numb from the epidural), Summer had to be suctioned out. Needless to say, she had a conehead for the first week of her life! Summer is the first grandchild on both sides of the family and the first fifth generation grandchild on the Durfey side (Great-great grandma Durfey, Great-grandma Saunders, Grandpa Saunders, Dad, then Summer).Summer was the cutest baby, with the whitest skin and dark hair and eyes. She looked like a china doll, really. She was spoiled from the beginning with a mom who never put her down, and aunts and uncles, and grandma’s. So when we moved out of Grandma’s house, and mom was all alone during the day, she had to entertain Summer nonstop! We went on lots of walks, and soon after, I became pregnant with Aaron, so to entertain her when I was tired, I would read her book after book after book. I think this is why Summer is such a bookworm.
Summer has been reading since she was four and she is the type of kid that reads anything. I caught her reading the back of cereal boxes when she was little. She even gets in trouble for reading when she should be doing homework. She is a night owl because she loves to read so much.
Summer also started dance classes at the age of four. She did a little tap class that was precious. Later, she enrolled in ballet with Miss Diane and fell in love with ballet. When we moved to Bellingham, she was introduced to jazz and loves that too. She finally got to go on pointe this year and is excited about that. Honestly, I did not think she would get there, but she has stuck by dance all these years, and it really suits her, she is graceful.
Summer also loves to eat sweets, hence she likes to bake. She’ll whip up a cake, or just eat cookie dough straight out of the bucket. Summer is a freshman in high school and acquired a 4.0 her first semester, way to go! What others say about Summer is that she is really beautiful, but that she is really nice as well. She has a sense of decency and knows what Heavenly Father wants her to do. I don’t have any of her baby pics to share with you, they are darn cute, I will have to scan them in later, she was “pre-digital”!
